A little preview for next week...
Ellen Ripley, Xenomorphs, and a deep dive into a sci-fi horror classic!
Have you ever had a random thing happen and it caused you to be in the mood for a certain movie, show, or genre of music? The mood turns into a border line obsession? Like today, “Sex & Candy” by Marcy Playground came on the radio. My first thought was, “This song is awesome!” and my second thought was, “This guy reminds me of Tim Kasher.” Naturally, I spent my day listening to the bands Cursive and The Good Life and I’ll be on an Indie Rock kick for the next few days.
Something similar happened a month ago. I was at the local comic book store and spotted this bad boy pictured below. I didn’t buy it right away, but it caught my eye every time I stopped in for a coffee. The Alien franchise has been on my mind a lot lately.
There are technically eight films in the franchise. The first two are classics. I’ve never seen three and four, but I’ve heard they are tire fires. There are two Alien vs Predator movies which sounds cool in theory, but word on the street is those are major dumpster fires. Ridley Scott, the creator of the first film, gave it another shot with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant but those two are pretty mid.
So here’s what I’m going to do: I have a little extra time on my hands next week so I am immersing myself into the first four films, The Ellen Ripley Saga. My goal is to watch all four and devote an article to each one. If you’ve ever listened to The Rewatchables podcast, it’ll be similar to that but in written form. I’ll watch the two classics and hope to find some good in the two films that are considered tire fires. No matter what, I’m watching them and writing about them! I want to focus on the Ellen Ripley films because she is the true hero of this franchise. Hope you enjoy what’s ahead!
Side note: The comic has been added to my collection and remember that bit about border line obsession…this guy is currently in my Amazon cart because, why not?
